DOE, DOI, HHS unresponsive House panel

      House Small Business Committee leaders say the Energy, Interior and Health and Human Services Depts. have not responded to the committee’s request to submit information on their compliance with publishing small entity guides.

      Under Section 212 of the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREF), federal agencies must publish a small entity compliance guide for each rule that has a significant impact on small businesses. Agencies must report annually to Congress on their performance.

      In May, the committee sent letters to 135 agencies to ask about their compliance. As of Sept. 7, three agencies, DOE, DOI and HHS, had not responded.

      The committee stated in a press release that few federal agencies are complying with SBREF reporting requirements. Further details were not immediately available.
