NDAA Sect. 801 raises concerns

Section 801 of the House’s National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2018 is raising concerns about possibly reducing vendors’ access to federal markets.

The section would require the General Services Administration to contract with multiple commercial online marketplaces, such as Amazon, for the government’s procurement of certain commercial products.

Roger Waldron, president of the Coalition for Government Procurement, warns that such a change would have a huge impact and many contractors are likely to see their access to the federal market shrink.

Section 801 does not say how small business would be addressed, except to say that Congress would need to be informed of small vendor participation in the online marketplaces within three years.
