SBA IG finds WOSB problems
Forty-four percent of the set-asides reviewed in the Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business program did not meet the requirements for such set-asides, according to a new report from SBA’s inspector general.
Contracting officers awarded 15 of 34 WOSB set-aside awards reviewed without meeting WOSB program requirements, the IG wrote in the May 15 report. Those awards, totaling $7.1 million, may be “improper” as a result, the report said.
Of the 34 WOSB set-aside contracts reviewed, 10 were for ineligible work, and nine were awarded to firms that did not document their eligibility for the WOSB program, the IG said.
In an independent and unrelated review, Set-Aside Alert also recently found $69 million in WOSB set-aside awards that may have been improper (see articles in 4/20; 5/1; and 5/15 editions).
