Set-aside opportunities on the rise
Number of solicitations increased in first six months of FY2017
Despite the budget uncertainties and political turmoil, federal set-aside opportunities appear to be proliferating at a higher level this year, in comparison to last year, based on Set-Aside Alert’s data.
The number of set-aside offerings on the FBO.gov website--presolicitations, solicitations and sources sought notices--grew by 26% from Oct. 1, 2016 to April 1, 2017, in comparison to the same period a year before.
The total number of such opportunities increased to 17,963, up from 14,225 the year before.
Set-Aside Alert used its own Contract Opportunities data to compute the figures. The Contract Opportunities are compiled every weekday from FBO.gov and pushed out to subscribers.
The increase might be due to contracting officials desiring to finish procurements for Obama-era programs, or to a rush to complete procurements before Continuing Resolution funds ran out.
The chart of the trend data below does not take into account that some solicitations may be canceled.
The chart also indicates that the coming weeks will be another annual busy season for set-asides--from June through September.
