DOL proposes sick leave rule

Affects federal contractors & subs

Many federal contractors and subcontractors would have to provide up to seven days of paid sick leave to their workers each year under a new proposed rule published by the Labor Department.

The regulations implement Executive Order 13706 and cover new contracts on or after Jan. 1, 2017. Comments are due by March 28.

The sick leave rule applies to:

  • Procurements for construction covered by the Davis-Bacon Act (but not contracts subject only to the Davis-Bacon Related Acts);
  • Service contracts covered by the Service Contract Act;
  • Concessions contracts, including any concessions contract excluded from the service contract law;
  • And contracts in connection with federal property or lands and related to offering services for federal employees, their dependents, or the general public.
