Over half of SDVOSBs ineligible: DOD

An audit of 29 service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) awarded Defense Dept. contracts found that 16 of the vendors--55%--were ineligible for the awards because they did not qualify for SDVOSB status.

Those contracts were valued at $828 million, stated the DOD Office of Inspector General report dated Feb. 20.

"This occurred because the DOD relied on contractors to self-certify as an SDVOSB and did not have additional controls in place for DOD contracting activities to verify the accuracy of those representations," the audit said.

Vendors also were judged ineligible on three purported SDVOSB subcontracts valued at $165 million.
