House extends SBIR-STTR

The House voted to extend for five years the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs and related projects. Without the extensions the programs would expire on Sept. 30.

SBIR and STTR are utilized by 11 federal agencies, including the Defense Dept., to contract with small firms with emerging technologies.

The extension was submitted by Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-NY, chair of the House Small Business Committee, as part of the “America COMPETES Act,” which has provisions to assist small manufacturers, create apprenticeships and authorize $45 billion to make small business supply chains more resilient.
