GOP may delay spending boost to infrastructure
President Trump said in his address to Congress this week that he would propose a $1 trillion plan to restore America’s crumbling roads, bridges and other infrastructure--which would be a boon for small businesses.
Trump has mentioned his infrastructure goal on many previous occasions, but has not set a timeline for it. And according to the news website Axios, Republican sources recently have been talking about delaying introduction of any infrastructure spending package until 2018. The idea is to give Republican lawmakers “more breathing room” for dealing with pending debates on reducing taxes and on repealing and replacing Obamacare, Axios said.
Trump said in his speech that the $1 trillion would be a mix of government spending and private investment, with an emphasis on buying and hiring American.
Last month, Democratic senators introduced a detailed $1 trillion infrastructure plan.
