The FirstStep Employment Law Advisor, at http://www.dol.gov/elaws/FirstStep/, is designed to help employers determine which labor laws apply to their business and to provide links to information about how to comply with these laws.

Users answer a series of questions to get a list of laws deemed most relevant to their business. Questions cover the number of employees and benefits plans, among other topics. Then the site generates links to compliance assistance sites for those laws, including posters, guides, and further e-laws Advisors.

FirstStep only deals with laws regulated by the Labor Department, but it points toward sites related to laws overseen by other federal agencies and state offices. The site also provides contact information for each law.

Labor’s e-laws site is also home to other Advisor sites offering more help for issues such as retirement and health benefits.
