Will NDAA cut inflation cost?
PSC chief comments
David Berteau, president and chief executive of the Professional Services Council, has expressed hope--along with skepticism-- that the inflation reduction provision in Section 822 of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2023 will provide real benefits to contractors.
The final version of the inflation relief provision in the NDAA is “substantially more restrictive than the original amendment,” Berteau told FedNewsNetwork on Dec. 13. “So it will be very interesting to see whether this actually does anything at all.”
Berteau was concerned about vendors possibly needing to prove that a cost increase was “solely” due to inflation, as the law states. The problem, he said, is that “you can’t tell what’s due to inflation, what’s due to supply chain hiccups, and what’s due to wage growth that’s not caused by inflation but was caused by a tight labor market. You can’t segregate out various causes.”
