What are the top industries for SDVOSB set-asides?

Construction is the top industry for SDVOSB (service-disabled veteran-owned small business) federal contracting set-asides, according to original research by Set-Aside Alert.

Professional & Business Services is in second place, followed by Manufacturing, and then by Transportation & Warehousing.

Set-Aside Alert recently downloaded data from the Federal Procurement Data System to create our own dataset of set-aside and sole source contracts awarded to SDVOSBs and expiring in fiscal 2016 and 2017. Those contracts totaled $4.4 billion.

Construction was the top industry for the SDVOSBs in our data set, accounting for $2.2 billion of the total.

In second place was Professional & Business Services, with $1.79 billion in such contracts.

Next most popular were Manufacturing, with $153 million; Transportation & Warehousing, with $131 million; Education & Health, with $82 million; and “Other Services,” $33 million.

The remainder included $13 million for Wholesale/Retail Trade, $10 million for Information, $3 million for Real Estate & Leasing, and $3 million for Utilities.

Leisure & Hospitality was $451,000; Financial & Banking, $336,000; Agriculture, $142,000; and Mining, $113,000.
