Puerto Rico canceling controversial no-bid contract
Puerto Rico’s electric company prepared to cancel a $300 million sole-source contract that it had awarded to a Montana-based small business. The contract was for repairs to Puerto Rico’s power grid after Hurricane Maria.
The contract with Whitefish Energy was widely criticized because it was a no-bid award to a firm reported to have had just two employees when the storm struck. FEMA said it had “significant concerns” about the contract.
