Employer of blind workers cuts 47 jobs; judge backs SDVOSBs
A federal judge has denied a request that would have allowed nonprofit IFB Solutions Inc., an AbilityOne employer of blind and severely disabled workers, to hold onto a longstanding contract with the Veterans Affairs Dept.
The judge had ruled that VA preferences for contracts with small firms owned by veterans and service-disabled veterans override AbilityOne.
VA terminated IFB’s contract on Sept. 4, and IFB cut 47 positions as a result. Another 90 jobs are threatened. Of the 137 jobs affected, 76 are held by blind employees and 15 by veterans.
IFB has petitioned the Supreme Court for relief.
