White House releases plan for IT modernization
A White House panel of specialists released a report intended as a blueprint for modernizing the government’s information technology.
The American Technology Council was directed by President Trump to coordinate the report, which is open for public comment until Sept. 20.
The report sets out a vision and also sets a roadmap of actions to achieve the vision.
Key goals in the report include:
- Modernizing and consolidating networks and network services, with cybersecurity for networks consolidated and managed to high standards;
- Prioritizing the modernization of high-risk and high-value assets;
- Modernizing the Trusted Internet Connections and National Cybersecurity Protection System Program to enable cloud migration;
- Consolidating network acquisitions and management;
- Increasing category management of commodity IT;
- Enabling use of commercial cloud;
- Accelerating adoption of cloud email and collaboration tools;
- And improving existing shared services and providing additional security-focused shared services.
