GSA in hot water for 2nd event
For the second time in months, the General Services Administration is under fire for alleged excessive conference costs--this time for $269,000 spent on an employee awards event in November 2010.
The Federal Acquisition Service’s costs included $28,000 for time-and-temperature picture frames and $21,000 for musical drumsticks apparently given to 4,000 attendees, according to a report from GSA Inspector General Brian Miller released by the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s GOP majority.
A reception for 200, with a violinist and guitarist, cost $7,700.
Committee Chair Rep. John Mica, R-FL, called the spending “incredible abuses.”
In April, the GSA was blasted for an $800,000 regional conference held in 2010. GSA Administrator Martha Johnson subsequently fired two deputies and resigned.
