US CIO promotes ‘single door’ vision
Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel wants agencies to apply a “single-door” approach to managing vendors.
Speaking at the President’s Management Advisory Board meeting on July 17, VanRoekel said the Veterans Affairs Department saved $40 million by centralizing how it manages contractors in a vendor management organization.
The GSA and Treasury Department also have applied similar “single door” methods to managing their vendors.
The next step is for the government to set goals for using central vendor management organizations and to align the goals across agencies, VanRoekel, said.
“As far as next steps on this, it’s all about scale. It’s taking it and scaling it across government,” he said.
