Sharpe: new tools for MAS

New tools are available to address the variability of pricing in the Multiple Award Schedules (MAS), Tom Sharpe, Federal Acquisition Service commissioner, wrote in a recent blog entry.

The GSA is collecting existing Universal Product Codes to allow government buyers to compare prices for the same product.

Also, the new Horizontal Pricing Analysis Tool is being used by GSA acquisition staff to analyze price variability for specific Schedule items. It shows the competitive range of prices for an item and whether or not a vendor’s price is within that range. If not, the officer may initiate a conversation with the vendor.

“We know these conversations aren’t always easy,” Sharpe added. But, he said, many vendors have seen increased sales after reducing their price so it is within the competitive range.
