DOD services contracts cut
The Defense Department in fiscal 2016 hopes to cut 10% from all services contracts in all DOD units outside of the military departments, according to a senior DOD executive.
Ken Brennan, deputy director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy for Services, shared the goal in a recent interview with Federal News Radio.
The DOD Office of the Secretary and other DOD units are going through the Services Requirements Review Boards (SRRBs) process for the first time.
While the boards have been active in military components in past years, they were just established for the DOD’s so-called “fourth estate” units in January.
The boards will identify and review every service contract worth $10 million or more and determine if it is redundant and whether it fulfills a valid requirement.
Service contracts take up about half of DOD spending, equal to spending on weapons systems.
