HUBZone change stalled
A Senate provision to expand HUBZone eligibility for small businesses on closed military bases did not advance in the House.
The provision, included in the Senate’s national defense authorization bill, would have made it easier for small firms established within HUBZones on closed military bases to obtain and keep their HUBZone status.
Currently, at least 35% of the firms’ employees must live within the HUBZones. Under the amendment by Sen. Angus King, I-ME, employees also could live in nearby communities.
The amendment was approved by the Senate but was not included in the House version of the defense bill. Details were not immediately available on why the amendment failed to advance and which lawmakers were involved.
