Space Force gets $40M
One of the most noteworthy items in the NDAA for fiscal 2020 was establishment of the U.S. Space Force.
Congress allocated $40 million in fiscal 2020 for operations and maintenance for the new force. An organizational and funding plan is due by Feb. 1, and reports on personnel and integration with existing offices are due in 180 days.
The law created a new Senate-confirmed position of assistant secretary of the Air Force for space acquisition and integration, who will serve as the top acquisition executive, according to SpaceNews.
There also will be a Space Force Acquisition Council.
The acquisition executive will oversee the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), the Space Rapid Capabilities Office and the Space Development Agency.
Congress approved $40 million for Space Force operations and maintenance in the fiscal year 2020 appropriations.
