FTS To Roll Out New Business System

GSA’s Federal Technology Service will begin rolling out a new business system in January that will change the way the agency processes its task and delivery orders through GSA schedules and governmentwide acquisition contracts.

The Third Generation System, known as 3GS, will replace several systems, most notably IT Solutions, or ITSS, that is used by regional offices, said Chris Wren, chief technology officer for the Federal Technology Service.

In an interview, Wren urged contractors that are registered on ITSS to review their registration and make sure all information is up-to-date – especially contact names — before the data is moved into the new system.

He said contractors will notice some big changes when the rollout is complete next June, because 3GS will “integrate order processing with receiving and invoicing.” He said the goal is to improve invoicing and “facilitate the whole payment process.”

The current system of e-mail notification about task orders will continue, he added.

In addition, 3GS will allow vendors to generate new reports about activity on their contracts, he said.

FTS’s Region 3 office in Philadelphia and Region 8 in Denver will switch to 3GS in January; more offices will follow in April and the system will be fully operational nationwide in June.

As 3GS is activated, old systems will switch to “read-only” mode and will not accept any new information.

The 3GS system replaces about a dozen systems that are in use in various GSA offices. “It will standardize everything we do,” said Bob Suda, an FTS program manager.
