GAO protests drop by 16%
The number of protests filed with the Government Accountability Office dropped by 16% in fiscal 2019, in comparison to the year before.
The GAO, in its annual report on protests, said it received 2,071 protests in fiscal 2019, a decrease from 2,474 in fiscal 2018.
While no reasons were given for the reduction, the trend of agencies limiting or changing how and where task orders may be protested may have contributed, according to PilieroMazza PLLC. (PilieroMazza blog post).
Of the protests resolved on the merits, GAO backed the protester 13% of the time, down from 15%. Agencies were faulted primarily for unreasonable technical evaluations or cost/price evaluations, inadequate documentation, flawed selection procedures and unequal treatment.
