VeriSign Inc., the company that manages the .com and .net Internet domains, has begun issuing quarterly briefings on Internet usage, security and fraud trends.

The free briefings are available at http://www.verisign.com/corporate/briefing/ or can be delivered by e-mail.

VeriSign says it can provide a comprehensive picture of both licit and illicit online activity using data from the 10 billion daily messages processed by its two Internet root servers and from its online payment services for 94,000 businesses.

Among the findings reported in the latest briefing: “a definite correlation between fraud attacks and network security attacks – indicating that people who are attacking enterprise network perimeters are also likely to be committing online fraud.”
