Loosening rules for disaster work
The Trump Administration is easing contracting regulations to speed disaster relief contracts.
The Labor Dept.'s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) announced three-month exemptions of several contracting rules for contracts related to Harvey, Irma and Maria relief.
Under the exemptions, contractors awarded new disaster relief work do not have to develop written affirmative action programs. They also do not need to comply with the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act, which makes veterans a priority in hiring, or with Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires accommodations for disabled people.
