    • DOD urged to cut contracts rather than staff

    Two key lawmakers have asked Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to consider contracting reductions to avoid a 20% cut to headquarters staff.

    Reps. Bill Young, R-FL and Pete Visclosky, D-IN, chairman and top-ranked Democrat, respectively, on the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, said DOD should consider eliminating “certain functions and certain contracts entirely, rather than across-the-board cuts to all functions.”
