Vendors get audit notices

On Sept. 7, the Labor Dept. sent letters to 750 contractors as advance notice of possible upcoming reviews of their required Affirmative Action plans. A previous set of Corporate Scheduling Announcement Letters was sent to 1,000 contractors earlier this year.

Not all vendors who get the scheduling notice letters will get audited. The notice gives 45-days advance warning that a scheduling letter may be forthcoming. Only those who receive a scheduling letter must be reviewed.

After receiving a scheduling letter, contractors have 30 days to submit their affirmative action plan. DOL officials said a one-time 30-day extension would be granted for supporting data.

Contracting attorneys are advising targeted firms to collect and analyze their documentation and raw data on hires, terminations, promotion and compensation to ensure compliance.
