Certifiers Named for Women’s Contracting Program

SBA has approved the first four organizations to serve as third-party certifiers for the woman-owned business contracting program.

Certifications by these organizations will be recognized by SBA for participation in the new set-aside program:

•El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce—www.ephcc.org;

•National Women Business Owners Corp.—www.nwboc.org;

•U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce—www.uswcc.org/certification; and

•Women’s Business Enterprise National Council—www.wbenc.org.

Requirements for third-party certification are the same as for those companies that self-certify. The third parties are allowed to charge for the service; the Women’s Chamber lists its fee as $275 for its Business and Business Plus Members, and $350 for non-members.

Rules for the program went into effect in February, after a 10-year delay, and the first set-aside contracts were awarded in June.

For information about the requirements for certification, go to www.sba.gov/wosb.
