SCOTUS health ruling affects small business
The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act provides eligible small businesses an annual tax credit of up to 35% for 2010-2013, according to General Counsel law firm in McLean, VA.
The credit is available to firms with 25 or fewer full-time employees, and with average wages of less than $50,000 a year. The company must pay at least half the cost of single-person health care coverage for each of the workers.
A company that pays $50,000 a year for the premiums will save $17,500 each year.
The law also brings penalties upon employers with more than 50 workers if they do not provide sufficient health care coverage to their workers, along with new tax reporting requirements, according to Hopkins & Carley law firm in San Jose, CA.
