Defense releases mobile strategy
The Defense Department released its first formal mobile device strategy to smooth the way for broader adoption of commercial smartphones and tablets and to develop an enterprise approach to mobile applications.
The 10-page document outlined the need to improve three broad areas—wireless infrastructure, mobile devices, and mobile apps.
Defense agencies already are using commercial mobile devices. More than 250,000 commercial mobile devices, including “several thousand” Apple iOS and Android devices, are currently in use by the military. The report does not specify which devices may be adopted departmentwide.
