The Senate Small Business Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing June 21 on the nomination of Steven Preston to head the Small Business Administration. Preston was executive vice president of ServiceMaster, a large franchising company, and previously served as an investment banker. Some critics have questioned his qualifications because of his long career in big businesses. But House Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo (R-IL) said Preston’s “wealth of experience in executive leadership and financial management…will serve him well at the SBA.” Live video coverage will be available at 10:30 a.m. EDT at http://sbc.senate.gov/democrat/.
Barbara Glodfelty has been named acting deputy director of defense procurement and acquisition policy. She replaces Dominic Cipicchio, who is moving to the Department of Homeland Security. The director, Shay Assad, said Glodfelty will be responsible for all operations and activities of his policy office.
The congressman’s office said doctors at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA, are confident the cancer was contained within the tumor and found no evidence of any other tumors. X-rays showed a fractured vertebra, and subsequent tests found the tumor growing inside the vertebra, the statement said. |
