Events down, webinars up
Due to shrinking budgets, government officials are attending fewer and fewer events, but their webinar participation is going up, according to a new survey of 3,700 federal decision makers by research firm Market Connections Inc.
Sixty-nine percent said they were reducing out-of-town travel; 59% were attending fewer industry conferences; and 30% were attending fewer trade shows.
In the 2011 survey, 52% said they attended one to three events in the previous year, dropping to 49% in 2012, 41% in 2013 and 36% in the 2014 survey.
At the same time, 33% of the defense officials and 57% of the civilian agency officials said they are participating in more webinars.
In the 2011 survey, 14% said they participated in four or more webinars in the previous year; by 2014, that number has risen each year to 33%.
