GSA claims 76% small biz on OS2
The General Services Administration announced that $609 million in sales from its Office Supplies-2 (OS2) procurement have gone to small businesses, which is 76% of total sales.
That is an increase from the 67% small firm utilization in the previous round, the agency said. The third round, OS3, is expected to reach 82%, the agency said.
The GSA also said 19% of sales have gone to firms owned by service-disabled veterans.
The GSA’s figures have been somewhat controversial because they are based on percentages of the dollar value of sales, while some advocates say an accounting ought to be based on the number and percentage of small firms affected. Federal auditors have said that data and performance measures for determining small business participation in strategic sourcing initiatives are limited.
The GSA released the new data on its new “OS2 Savings and Small Business Dashboard.”
