The Department of Homeland Security has created a vendor information site at https://vendors.dhs.gov where businesses may submit details about information technology products and services that might be useful for homeland security.

The department says it will retain the information for reference purposes in order to understand IT products and services that may meet emerging requirements. But there are no guarantees: DHS said it “may ask for clarification or for further information using the contacts that vendors provide in their submissions.” It added, “Any acceptance of vendor submissions does not expressly or implicitly represent any commitment to procure a product or service.”

Any information submitted will be considered for internal government use only, but the department cautions that submission of trade secrets “is discouraged.”

DHS said the website is “another step in the department’s ongoing effort to harness American ingenuity to develop partnerships with the private sector to research, develop and deploy homeland security technologies that will make America safer.” The site may later add information on other types of products and services.
