While the Department of Homeland Security is still “a work in progress,” as one congressman put it, the new department has established a website at www.dhs.gov, providing basic information for potential contractors.

From the home page, click on “Working with DHS” and scroll down to click on “Doing Business with DHS.”

Although the site claims to list “our newest business opportunity,” the newest solicitation posted this week was dated March 18.

The department is still depending on contracting offices in its component agencies to write their own solicitations until a central procurement office is established. The page contains links to each of those agency Web pages.

The component agencies – Coast Guard, Secret Service, etc. – are posting their solicitations on FedBizOpps under their own names.

The DHS contracting site also links to its rules for handling unsolicited proposals. That link includes contact names and numbers in various agencies.

For now, the DHS website, like the department, is a work in progress.
