House passes FOIA bill
The House passed legislation that would require federal agencies to make plans for using a single Web portal for Freedom of Information Act requests.
The bill, HR1211, which passed unanimously, also would have the FOIA portal be managed by the Office of Management and Budget.
An early draft of the bill would have expanded an existing Web portal, FOIAonline, created by the EPA, Commerce Department and National Archives. FOIAonline allows individuals to file, process and track FOIA requests. That language was removed before the vote.
