GSA Targets SDV Companies

GSA has announced an initiative to increase its contracting with service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.

The agency says the Twenty-One Gun Salute initiative will raise awareness among GSA buyers and contracting officers, identify SDV businesses that provide high-demand government products and services, help those businesses find markets, establish a mentor program, partner with veterans organizations and support business-to-business partnerships.

GSA has entered into a partnership with the Veterans Corp. (www.veteranscorporation.org), a federally chartered nonprofit that provides support for veteran entrepreneurs.

Like most agencies, GSA has failed to reach the 3% goal for contracting with SDV firms. The agency said those firms received 2.2% of its contract dollars in 2007.

GSA said it added 700 SDV companies to its vendor list last year, up from 100 the year before. In addition, the agency created the VETS governmentwide acquisition contract, the first SDV set-aside GWAC, and made awards to 44 IT companies.
