House OKs SDVOSB bills
The House passed several bills intended to help service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) and veteran entrepreneurs.
The bills, developed by the House Small Business Committee, are:
- HR 1615 would transfer the responsibility of maintaining a database of fully certified SDVOSBs and veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs) to the Small Business Administration. Currently the database is maintained by the Veterans Affairs Dept.
The bill also “clarifies” that the VA verifies that a small business owner is a veteran or service-disabled veteran, and the SBA verifies that it is a small business, according to House small business panel news release.
- HR 3537 authorizes for five years the SBA’s Boots to Business entrepreneurship program for new veterans.
- HR 499 would clarify that surviving spouses of an SDVOSB owner remain eligible for the SDVOSB certification as long as specific requirements are met.
