Web Watch: Twitter For Procurement Reform

A new website seeks ideas on how federal acquisition can benefit from technological developments such as Twitter and Facebook.

The Better Buy Project, www.betterbuyproject.com, is “looking for ideas to make federal acquisition more open, transparent, and collaborative,” according to an explanation posted on the site.

It is a collaboration of GSA, the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council and the National Academy of Public Administration.

Users can offer ideas with or without identifying themselves. The site has been active for only a few weeks; so far the most popular thread has attracted about 60 posts.

One poster suggested using Web chats or live video streaming in lieu of travel to industry days. Another said agencies could update the status of procurements on Twitter.

Acquisition issues are divided into three general topics: Market Research and Requirements Definition Phase; Pre-Solicitation Phase; and Solicitation Phase. “GSA would really like to adopt some of your best ideas,” the site says.
