Size Increase Proposed for Security Guard Industry

SBA proposes increasing the size standard for the security guard industry, NAICS 561612, by 47% to $15.5 million.

Industry officials had asked for an increase, citing the increased costs of complying with federal requirements for security guards and the increased number of large security firms competing for federal contracts. The current size standard is $10.5 million.

SBA said small firms won 37% of prime contract dollars for security guard services in 2002 and 2003.

The proposed rule is RIN 3245-AF28. Comments are due Dec. 12.
