Biden the presumptive winner of 2020 presidential election
“Lame duck” Congress & White House until Jan. 20; Unfinished business includes budget, NDAA, stimulus
Democrat Joe Biden has been elected as the 46th president of the United States, with Kamala Harris as vice president, promising a major reset to the federal government.
From now until the swearing-in ceremonies on Jan. 20, the lame-duck Congress and GOP President Donald Trump continue to have authority. The state of Georgia will conduct a runoff election for two US Senators on Jan. 5.
Unfinished business includes fiscal 2021 appropriations, with the current Continuing Resolution expiring on Dec.11. Also pending are final votes on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal 2011, an annual law that almost always includes small business acquisition measures.
Another priority is passage of a stimulus bill to help revive the economy during the COVID19 pandemic.
Biden has said he will press for more funds for COVID19 protective equipment, testing, treatment and vaccine distribution.
