Immigration Agents Target Workers on Military Bases

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is targeting contractors on military installations in its search for illegal immigrants.

ICE has arrested more than 200 illegal immigrants working for defense contractors this year, but so far no employers have been charged.

The agency also targets other critical infrastructure locations, including airports, seaports, oil refineries, nuclear plants and chemical plants.

On Oct. 5 ICE announced the arrest of seven illegal aliens who were working on base housing construction at Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID.

“One of our priorities for worksite enforcement has to be to protect potential targets of terrorism,” said Jeff Copp, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Denver office. “Our special agents work hand-in-hand with these facilities to identify gaps in security, starting with its personnel. It’s essential that military bases like Mountain Home AFB know who has access to its facility.”

On the same day ICE announced the arrest of two Indonesian nationals and a Senegalese national who were working as contract language instructors at the Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, NC.

In April ICE arrested 163 illegal aliens with access to military bases in Southern California. Illegal immigrants have also been arrested on the job this year at the Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida; Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina; and the Northrup Grumman Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS.
