  • Cyber requirements for contractors

A proposed rule from the General Services Administration, the Defense Department and NASA would bring new cybersecurity requirements for contractors.

The rule would make vendors responsible for securing information systems that store or carry any type of governmental information, including email. Currently, the cyber rules apply only to public information. The public comment period ends Oct. 23.

The plan would restrict contractors from accessing government information from public computers, and small contractors may have to update their systems, according to an article in the Washington Post.

The proposal would apply the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 to contractor systems that contain or process government information.
