Web Watch: Don’t Waste Your Time

SBA has launched a new online training tool for companies seeking federal contracts. Don’t waste your time on it unless you are a newcomer to the federal market.

The course, at www.sba.gov/fedcontractingtraining, is titled “Recovery Act Opportunities: How to Win Federal Contracts.” But the content barely mentions the Recovery Act and contains no specific information on how to pursue Recovery Act contracts.

The course is a PowerPoint presentation that could be useful for a company with no experience or knowledge of federal procurement. It defines the basic terms and contains links to the usual suspects: FedBizOpps, SBA district offices, small business development centers and procurement technical assistance centers.

The presentation lasts about 15 minutes.

SBA says the online course is part of the new outreach to small businesses announced by the Obama administration last month. Let’s hope the administration has some better ideas.
