FY2019 CR expected
Shutdown a possibility
While Congress has made significant progress on fiscal 2019 spending bills, it appears unlikely that all appropriations will be completed by Sept. 30. A continuing resolution is expected.
Even if Congress meets the deadline, it still has to contend with President Trump’s July 29 tweet threatening a shutdown unless border wall funds are included in the appropriations.
“I would be willing to ‘shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall!” the president tweeted.
Responding to concerns about a potential shutdown, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY, and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-WI, reportedly have urged Trump to put off a major fight over a border wall until after the midterm elections in November.
