New Leader Is Picked For GSA

President Bush has nominated James A. Williams, a career federal employee, to head the General Services Administration.

The nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.

Williams is currently commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service, GSA’s largest contracting organization. After working at GSA early in his career, he held management positions at the Internal Revenue Service and as head of the Homeland Security Department’s US-VISIT program. Administrator Lurita Doan brought him back to GSA to lead the new Federal Acquisition Service two years ago.

Acting Administrator David Bibb, who took over when Doan was forced out in April, plans to retire.
