HUBZone Firm Verifies IDs

Mobilisa Inc., a woman-owned HUBZone firm, has won a $3.8 million contract for R&D and implementation of its ID card verification system at military installations over the next three years.

The company said its technology can identify fake IDs and can scan databases to determine if a person is wanted on criminal charges or has been banned from military bases. It runs on a hand-held computer.

The system, known as Security Enhancement through Mobile Devices, is being used at more than a dozen installations, including Navy bases in the Pacific Northwest and at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington. The company said it has scanned nearly 2 million cards without a single false positive.

Mobilisa’s contract could get much bigger. Federal Computer Week reported the House Armed Services Committee has ordered a study of whether the Defense Department needs common standards and protocols to control access to all its facilities. CEO Nelson Ludlow said Mobilisa’s system could provide that capability.

Mobilisa is based in Port Townsend, WA.
