At Small Business Week, SBA Honors Stars

A 35-year-old Virginia lawyer who created a multimillion-dollar job-matching service was named SBA’s Small Business Person of the Year.

Sean Christopher Boyer started SnagAJob.com in 2000 after a friend asked him for help finding an internship. The site links to listings of hourly and part-time jobs. Sales reached $11 million last year.

He was honored by President Bush at the White House on April 23.

Other SBA awards presented during Small Business Week:

Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year, Richard J. Lara, President of Classic Industries Inc. of Dona Ana, NM. The 8(a) general contractor and construction management firm specializes in commercial and residential construction projects. Classic has fulfilled more than 50 Defense Department construction contracts.
Small Business Subcontractor of the Year, Cheryl Snead, President and CEO and Roland Snead, Executive Vice President, of Banneker Industries Inc. of North Smithfield, RI. This 8(a) company specializes in precision-machined defense components and is a major player in supply chain management for the federal government and private sector.
