Procurement Policy Nominee Is Veteran Federal Official

President Bush announced he will nominate Paul Denett, a veteran procurement official, to be administrator for Federal Procurement Policy at the Office of Management and Budget.

Robert Burton, a career government employee, has served as acting administrator since David Safavian resigned in September. Safavian was indicted on charges that he lied about his connections to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Denett has more than thirty years experience in government and private-sector procurement. He is currently vice president of contracting programs at ESI International, a consulting firm. He served as a senior procurement executive in the Interior and Treasury departments and also worked for the Army, Navy and Agriculture Department, according to ESI’s biography.

He is a member of the advisory board of the National Contract Management Association and vice chairman of the Procurement Roundtable, an organization of former senior government officials.

“Denett is an excellent nominee,” said Stan Soloway, president of the Professional Services Council. “His extensive and hands-on government and industry experience would bring the right balance to this role in an important policy office. Paul’s nomination comes at a critical juncture and we thus hope the Senate will act on his nomination quickly.”
