SBA adds 3,732 new HUBZones
Includes 231 new rural zones designated by governors
The Small Business Administration’s new HUBZone map taking effect on July 1 will add 3,732 newly eligible HUBZones, including 231 new rural HUBZones designated by governors, the agency announced.
The new map will allow thousands of small businesses to be eligible for HUBZone status for the first time, giving them a shot at $14 billion in annual HUBZone procurements.
Overall, there are more than 20,000 HUBZones.
For the first time, the HUBZone map also includes Governor-Designated Covered Areas authorized under a direct final rule in 2019. Those are counties and census tracts, mostly in rural areas, that governors requested to be approved as HUBZones in petitions to the SBA.
To date, governors have successfully added new HUBZones in areas that they designated, including:
- Colorado, five counties;
- Connecticut, Torrington County;
- Idaho, 7 counties;
- Illinois, five counties, 30 census tracts;
- Louisiana, 25 census tracts; and
- West Virginia, five counties.
