Web Watch: Just the Facts

Want to sell to GSA? Wondering where the closest VA hospital is? Need an organizational chart of the Department of the Interior? Trying to find the National Telecommunications & Information Administration?

One of the best general resources on government organizations is the U.S. Government Manual. Packed in its 600 pages are org charts, mission statements, addresses and telephone numbers of key executives and field facilities around the country. It also lists Freedom of Information and small business offices of every agency and every bureau of every department in the federal government.

Published annually in late summer, the manual is not always totally up-to-date, but it’s excellent for understanding the agency before you make that prospecting appointment or respond to a solicitation. At the very least, it gets you to the switchboard or the front door so you can begin your sales efforts.

Check it out at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/gmanual/browse-gm-07.html. Click on the pdf version of each chapter, so you can see the org chart and tabular information. Or buy the print version for $27 from the Government Printing Office (stock no. 069-000-00166-1) or your local bookseller (ISBN 978-0-160786-59-4).
